Based in London, UK, Hugh’s responsibilities include development of focussed risk management programmes and custom design of specific solutions to deal with client issues with a particular emphasis on creating and supporting workable BCM solutions for organizations of all sizes and sectors, and supporting them to implement these. He also has considerable experience of design and delivery of training programmes particularly aimed at improving the risk culture within an organisation. He is currently very involved in a major project developing a range of risk management solutions aimed at smaller clients.
Although very much a general Risk Manager at heart, Hugh has developed a specific expertise in the Business Continuity field, designing, implementing and supporting BCM projects for a range of clients. He is an experienced trainer with many years involvement in “skills transfer” intended to support clients to become more able to manage their risk issues. He was a member of the British Standards Institute committee BCM1, which was responsible for creating BS 25999 and the move from BS to ISO 22301 (Business Continuity Standards) from 2005 – 2014. He also participated in the committee which prepared the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard for BCM systems. He is a qualified Lead Auditor for BS 25999 / ISO 22301.
Hugh has worked for Aon and legacy companies since 1981, prior to which he spent 5 years with a major UK composite insurer. Hugh’s roles within Aon’s risk management consultancy have included consulting, solution design, management, marketing and sales.
During his time with Aon Hugh has worked with many sectors within both the public and private sector. Manufacturing organisations with which Hugh has worked include food and drink, explosives, iron and steel making, engineering and aerospace, power generation, textiles, printing, automotive. In non manufacturing experience includes service providers, logistics, central and local government and education.
Assignments have been undertaken throughout Europe and further afield including Taiwan, Hong Kong, India, South Africa, Caribbean and USA.
AGRC’s London based Enterprise Risk Management team, of which Hugh is a member, won the 2011 CIR award for Excellence in Business Continuity in the Insurance Industry.
