Consultant and associate trainer
Gareth has over 30 years experience in risk management related roles. He specializes in corporate level crisis management and resilience. Over the past 12 years he has worked as a principal consultant in major international advisory roles for Marsh McLennan, Ernst and Young and KPMG. He now runs his own company as an independent consultant.
His work both in an assurance and advisory capacity has encompassed advising major organizations at strategic level in order to minimize the impacts of reputation and operational risks on business strategy. He has worked across most sectors, such as technology, manufacturing, finance, insurance, extractive industries, retail, utilities, transportation, government and pharmaceutical.
In addition to benchmarking, planning, operating models and training, he is an experienced exercise designer and director for executive crisis management teams and major exercises. Gareth led the first UK national command and control exercise for the London 2012 Olympics (Exercise Yellow Fortius). Gareth also has experience in ‘uncertainty reduction’ techniques such as design and facilitation of scenario planning, scenario analysis, macro risk contingency planning and business war games. Gareth has also contributed as a co-opted panel member on British standards for exercising and crisis management.
Prior to this commercial experience Gareth served for 21 years in the UK Royal Air Force Regiment (Survive to Operate Branch) retiring as a Squadron Leader in 2001. His service was varied and he gained strategic experience as the Royal Air Force lead for nuclear, biological and chemical defence during operations in the late 1990s.
Gareth is a Fellow of the Institute of Civil Protection and Emergency Management; he is a Member of the Business Continuity Institute, Chartered Institute of Management and Emergency Planning Society. He is an affiliate member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations. He holds a masters degree in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management (Leicester University).
